FAQ

Do you include an engagement shoot?

Yes we do! We highly encourage getting your engagements done with us before your wedding. That’s why we include it in every wedding package. It’s a perfect chance to get to know us, learn how we shoot, and to get comfortable in front of the camera. Think of your engagement shoot as a rehearsal for your wedding day. We’re just exploring a cool location and having fun while toting around a camera. You’ll learn that the photo session isn’t scary. It’s just fun and cuddles. We learn who you are as a couple, how you interact with each other, and what you are comfortable with – we want to capture YOU. And you get to learn all about us and  our shooting ways. Then you won’t be so surprised when we ask you to do a handstand in your wedding dress. 😉 We pinky promise an engagement session is the best. When we get to your wedding day portrait session, you’ll be pros, and you’ll be able to relax. Ultimately this “prep session” is, in our humble opinion, the best way of insuring relaxed, fun, and intimate photos on your wedding day.

Not to mention (but mentioning anyways) that a nice professional photo will look fabulous on your wedding invitation.

Where are you located?

We’re renting an adorable 1960s home in Sunnyvale, CA.

Do you travel for weddings?

Oh hell yeah! We have TSA precheck, and our bags are always packed. Our favorites of the last few years include Copenhagen, Munich, Paris, Seattle, Austin, New York City, Philly, and Hawaii.

BONUS: We’ll waive travel fees if you travel where we’re already traveling. 🙂

Can we meet before booking?

Absolutely! In fact, we require that. We can meet virtually over FaceTime or a phone call. Having chemistry with your photographer is the most important thing about your wedding photos!

How do we book you?

Great wedding photography relies on chemistry and trust between us and our couple. We’re going to spend a lot of important time together, so we require meeting virtually or in person before booking to make sure we click. I promise this is for your protection! We want you to be 100% happy with your choice, and we want to make sure we can deliver to you the product you’re hoping for.

Your day will be officially reserved when you have signed the contract and paid the first installment of 50% of the total wedding package price.

When can we expect to get our photos?

You can expect your photos approximately 6 weeks after your wedding date depending on the time of year. However, within a few days of your wedding you will receive a little sneak peek to share with friends and family.

Editing is a huge part of our craft. And we love editing wedding photos! It gives us a chance to relive your day over and over again while we make sure each image conveys the exact emotion we remember feeling on your wedding day. Because we deliver so many images, this process takes quite a long time. I pinky swear we’re going as fast as we humanly can. (cause, ya know, we have to sleep sometimes, just like you.)

How many photos will we receive?

We deliver a minimum of 75 images per hour of shooting. And we mean minimum! We don’t restrict the image count or charge you extra for more photos. If there are 1000 amazing photos that tell a perfect story of your day, then you’ll get 1000 photos. We’re telling a story. The atmosphere and mood takes more than just a few photos. We also realize that too many photos can be overwhelming. We’ll make sure to narrow them down to the best ones by removing any half-closed eyes and duplicates.

All images you receive will be edited and sent via an online gallery ready for download to your phone and computer. Each image will be full resolution (~5000px on the longest edge) and ready for print.

What equipment do you use?

We each have our own cameras on your wedding day, so we’re running around like wild turkeys capturing every moment of your day. We shoot with professional Canon DSLRs (R6Mii, 5D MIV) and lots of different lenses (24mm, 35mm, and 50mm, 24-70mm, and some others I can’t remember right now). While we definitely prefer natural light, we also have external lighting for the reception and dancing.

Will Brad and Rachel both attend my wedding?

When we decided to have some babies, Brad took a step back from photography. Rachel runs the business now. We’ve hired an amazing associate shooter to take Brad’s place. Ashley and Rachel have shot a dozen weddings together, with the partnership starting in 2020.

How much time should we spend on wedding portraits?

We recommend that we put aside a minimum of 1 hour for portraits of you two split between a first look session and a sunset session. Your wedding day flashes by, and there are so many people begging for your attention. It’s each to forget what the day is all about… YOU and your love! The photo session is not only necessary to get great photos of you two, but it’s also a quiet time set aside during your day to remember what is most important. It’s a time to focus on being together, remembering why you’re getting married, and of course cuddling and kissing. This romantic and stress-free hour is SO important.

We can schedule your portraits before the ceremony as part of your First Look or after the ceremony. We’d also love to steal you away for 15-20 minutes around sunset. Sunset lighting is the happiest and most golden and beautiful light ever created. Plus, it’s another great time for you to smooch away from all the crowds.
